U.S. President Elect Barack Obama’s advisors have said today that they now expect the U.S. economy to further underperform in 2009. More specifically, they said economists believe unemployment could top 10% by the end of 2009. Additionally, the team said the economy would operate by as much as $1 trillion below full employment, or about $12,000 in lost income for a family of four. Barack Obama on Dec 21 2008 upped his goal of creating 2.5 million U.S. jobs to 3 million, despite IMF warnings of a bleak 2009. At that point, I questioned whether this was a reasonable jump, and even if anyone including Obama’s team of experts could do anything about the current economic crisis…I guess time will only tell.
