Match Launches Free Dating Service DownToEarth.com

DownToEarth.com is a new Dallas based dating social networking site just launched this month by InterActive Corp (IAC). IAC owns other premium social networks and dating sites such as Match.com However, DownToEarth.com is completely free without any restrictions. The launch of this free dating service comes from increased competition online with very comparable sites that are very active and free. For example, PlentyOfFish.com is completely free with over 900,000 active users. The strong growth of Facebook could also have some impact here as more and more people use it to meet new people. One feature that distinguishes DownToEarth.com is RealRatings, which is simply the ability for people to rate the ‘realness’ of a person, that is, rating photos/information based on how representative the information is of the real person. People are supposed to vote after being on a date with a person. I personally don’t see too much reason to get excited about this one.
