Wintek Says Its Supply Apple with New Displays, Possibly for Netbooks

The DigiTimes Chinese paper is reporting today that the Taiwanese company Wintek will begin shipping full displays to Apple sometime in Q3 of this year that will apparently be used in a new Apple netbook.

DigiTimes says, “Wintek revealed that it is currently working with Apple to develop some new product…shipments are likely to begin in the second half of the year.” Wintek apparently does not know what the displays will be used for by Apple, other than for some new product. Reports from the Commercial Times also indicate Quanta Computer will manufacture Apple’s new netbook.

Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook has said in the past that netbook machines are not very appealing to customers because of the small displays, cramped keyboards and lower end specs.

Given already how reasonably small the MacBook Air is, going even smaller may in fact prove to be more uncomfortable for the user. However, as more netbooks begin to spring up, it wouldn’t come as a surprise for Apple to release a competing product to maximize sales.

In recent netbook news, Intel is set to release its 1.66Gz Atom N280 processors that will effectively bring 1080p HD to netbooks. Asus has also recently  announced its new S121 netbook that will be available in the coming months.
