YouTube RealTime lets you share videos

youtube realtime YouTube RealTime lets you share videos

TC has an exclusive preview of YouTube Realtime that will let you share videos you are watching with your friends on YouTube. A simple bar appears at the bottom of every YouTube page, similar to Facebook Chat, with a button to turn sharing on or off. You will be able to easily see what video your friends are currently watching. This is now just another reason for you to sign up and actually manage your friend list on YouTube. Via

  • interesting, so does this link in with the push for google profiles?
  • hmm i don't think so, i dont understand though why they dont centralize everything
  • i think they have problems because each google business unit has its own resources and budgets, so it can make it hard to get joint projects between divisions within Google.

it should be around an open id solution, that is best for everyone and makes it easier
  • i'm with you! Google can definitely do whatever it wants despite divisional discrepancies...they should combine youtube accounts with Google, but then its a fine line, despite owning it, they want to maintain these products separately simply to increase consumer appeal....

i don't know u can argue many points for both, but i would like one primary account with Google that does it all...
  • thats actually an interesting point that you make there, because google has started linking accounts, when i tried to comment/rate a video a few days ago i was asked to login.

Sign in to YouTube with your YouTube OR Google Account

    :)
  • oh perfect, +1 to google for the integration in that case....

for some reason i just don't think the realtime feature is very useful, i mean if someone wants to share a video they will easily do it via twitter or IM....

plus people will probably leave it off in case they watch something rather embarrassing lol
  • i think that is a big issue, with more and more companies using google apps, i think that they dont want their company accounts tied to what videos staff are watching or commenting on.

im not sure if it offers any privacy features?
  • as far as I know, you can only elect to turn it off completely or keep it on for everyone, I don't think Google is gonna spend much time on it to offer the ability to make groups or anything, after all, youtube is no facebook lol
  • true not yet, they will be pouring over the analytics data, if they can get an increase in time on site, user engagement "comments/ratings" along with increased ad revenue they will start to improve it customise it.

after all they are a company built on data and statistics they are working on millions of combinations and variations so it going to be a slower decision i think, they dont want to get it wrong :)
  • yeah, i guess your right.... i'm glad they even introduced this anyway...better late than never and i'm sure it will encourage people to actually make an account and stuff....who knows, we might even see twitter buttons added!
