Bloggers that power their community with WordPress and are BlackBerry owners will be glad to hear that WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg (pictured above) confirmed during his speech at WordCamp in San Francisco that Automattic (the company behind WordPress) would release a native blogging BlackBerry app. It was also noted at the event WordPress 2.8 is coming and version 2.7 is doing well with very few bugs.
He declined to provide any more information relating to features and a possible release date.
A WordPress mobile app was already available since July 22, 2008 for the iPhone. We can likely expect the BlackBerry version to be very similar as well.
Nevertheless, the new BlackBerry version is very welcomed and surely busy bloggers on the road will appreciate the ability to make changes to posts, including easily adding photos, straight from their mobile device. It will also be great for live blogging. So, for smaller changes and posts, you can soon conveniently simply use your mobile instead of loading up a laptop. As an added benefit, you are always connected to the Internet with your BlackBerry, which isn’t always the case with your laptop.
Check out the video below to see the WordPress iPhone app in action, which will likely highly resemble the BlackBerry version.
