Facebook today announced it has launched Live Stream Box, a new feature that allows Facebook users to share information via status updates in real-time on any site using the feature.
Live Stream Box is mainly ideal for site owners to add the feature to pages hosting live event coverage, live video streams, live webinars, among other content where people could benefit from sharing information in real-time.
The feature was previously used on CNN during the live online coverage of President Obama’s inauguration to keep people connected.
If you would like to add the feature on your own site, you can add the widget by following these instructions outlined on the Facebook website.
Facebook says the Live Stream Box is built for scale and can handle millions of simultaneous updates.
Additionally, user updates are published in the news feed and include a URL for your friends to easily participate and see the event at the original source.
UStream had already implemented Facebook Chat integration beside their videos, the only difference now is with Live Stream Box, people can enjoy the benefits on any platform and not just on UStream.
UStream used Facebook Chat during a live Jonas Brothers sit-down with massive success. UStream said 974,000 people watched the one-hour webcast, with 23,000 posts being made on Facebook on average per minute, with a total of 1.5 million unique posts made through the Facebook feed.
Facebook previously launched the Facebook Comments Box app on Feb 20, 2009, offering webmasters the ability to add a fully featured comment system on their site (with FB news feed integration) – see our coverage here, including on how to install that app.
Twitter offers a similar site widget that allows users to view and reply to tweets made only by the target account, therefore It is not as ideal for live information sharing compared to the new Live Shout Box system from Facebook.
