Microsoft has just updated its mobile apps for Windows Live services. The new app is available in two flavors, one for touch and another for non-touch devices. The new version 10 of Windows Live for mobile includes many new useful features, such as push and pull sync for Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger integration, seamless photo sharing, Windows Live Search, Windows Live Spaces, among other additions and enhancements. BlackBerry maker RIM has just announced it will be investing $3.2 million from the $150 million strong BlackBerry Partners Fund in popular email/contact management tool Xobni. The investment comes as RIM faces increased competition from the iPhone and among other phone makers. The investment could be an indication that Xobni could be going mobile to the BlackBerry as RIM tries to make its BB more social. Read the full story
BlackBerry maker RIM has just completed upgrading its BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) to version 2.6 for North American customers. To get the new features for your Gmail account, you must delete your email account and re-add it. The changes in 2.6 are not very significant at all, the new features include:
* Display of password characters
o BlackBerry smartphone users have the option to display password characters when configuring email addresses with the BlackBerry Internet Service. This feature makes it easier for BlackBerry smartphone users to integrate third-party email addresses, especially when using a BlackBerry smartphone with the SureType® input method. Gmail has launched a new Undo Send feature, which will allow you to Unsend an email in the first five seconds after you press the send button. It basically only holds your message for five seconds, giving you enough time to undue, but after that small window, its too late. You can enable the feature in Gmail Labs under settings.
Many of you will be glad to hear about this, Google now lets you select multiple files at once to upload - this will definitely make life easier. Just hold the CTRL key and select multiple files! As of right now, it is the only online email service that lets you do this.
RIM has just announced that BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 will be released in Q2 2009. One of the most important new features is RIM’s Mobile Voice System (MVS), which will allow companies who deploy the system to save money on international calls. Jam Industries ltd., has already been using the system with 15 employees and says the system which cost his company $30,000 has paid itself back in only 3 months. Some key features in BES 5.0 include over-the-air pushed updates, ability to retrieve documents behind firewalls…more features after the break:

The email provider Hotmail is beginning to roll out free POP3 access for users in the U.S. now. Hotmail POP3 access was previously only available on premium accounts. Other countries including Canada, the UK, and most western European countries also now have free POP3 support. Microsoft is very late in opening free POP3 access to everyone, various email services including Google’s gmail was offering the feature since its launch. Yahoo remains the biggest player who does not offer free POP3 access right now. Hopefully Yahoo will also follow Microsoft here. Read the full story
Google now lets you tell your email recipients from which city you sent the email. You can easily add your location in your signature by turning the feature on from the signature preferences tab from the labs settings page. Now, Google just needs to add this feature in mobile email with Google Latitude support.
Google has just released a beta version of its new Google Sync service. Google sync will let you automatically keep your Google Calendar, email and contacts synced between your iPhone and Windows Mobile phone automatically. This sync capability was already available on the Blackberry and Symbian S60 powered phones, though now support has been added for the iPhone, Windows Mobile, and other SyncML supported cell phones. Google Sync offers two-way synchronization, so if you make a change on your mobile phone or your PC, the changes will be immediately synched with the server. Thankfully, you don’t have to send SMS messages to “GVENT” to update your calendar from now on.
Google has also partnered with TrueSwitch to make it easier for you to migrate data from other email services including Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo, among other services. You will be able to easily copy over contacts, old emails and other information to gmail. The new settings for you to start doing this are already available under Accounts and Import in the settings page in gmail. Just remember these services are beta and things can still go wrong.
Google has introduced multiple inbox views. Under settings, you can now choose what inboxes you see and you can also reposition them. Might be helpful for all you email gurus.
