During Apple’s held press conference yesterday that explained the antenna issues with the latest iPhone 4, the company alleged other smartphones also have similar connectivity issues if the devices are held in certain ways.
Apple specifically made these claims against Research In Motion (RIM), the company behind the BlackBerry, including other top phone makers like Nokia, Samsung, and High Tech Computer Corporation (HTC).
Today, both Nokia and RIM published statements debunking Apple’s claims against their products.
NTP Corporation today announced it has launched new lawsuits against numerous technology firms for alleged patent infringement related to eight patents held by the company in wireless email delivery.
NTP has filed suit against LG Electronics, Microsoft, Motorola, Apple, Google, High Tech Computer (HTC) Corporation in a U.S. District Court in Virginia.
NTP has already successfully sued firms for infringements on the same patents it is filing suit for today.
Early this morning, Apple filed a lawsuit against the Taiwanese phone maker High Tech Computer (HTC) Corporation, alleging the company in infringing on more than 20 Apple owned patents in its mobile phones.
The lawsuit was filed in a U.S. District Court in Delaware and with the U.S. International Trade Commission today.
HTC is the maker of about 85-percent of all Windows Mobile powered devices, and also the maker of Google’s latest Android powered phone, the Nexus One.
High Tech Computer (HTC) Corp today confirmed their new HTC HD2 handset (review). The device is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, runs on Windows Mobile 6.5, a large 4.3-inch WVGA display and a 5MP autofocus camera. The device also features 390 hours of standby time and 8 hours of video watching (or 12 hours of music) until the battery must be recharged.
HTC executive Peter Chou confirmed the phone would be available in the United States sometime in Q1 2010, and is expected to launch in the UK by the end of this month (rumored Oct 12).
IntoMobile has gotten a sneak peak at the new HTC TouchFlo 3D, the upgrade to the current home-screen HTC plug-in found on newer pocket pc phones such as the HTC Fuze. The new version allows for a lot more customization, as well as to customize which tabs appear on your phone. Additionally, there are a few new features, such as the addition of a Stocks tab to keep tab on your investments. It also features a new feature called “pushed internet”, the feature only pre-caches websites you pre-select so you can easily access the website quickly. Additionally now, the People tab is now integrated with all communications from a contact. Unfortunately there was no option to embed the video, but you can check it out here.
HTC has just announced the Magic, the first all touch-screen Google Android powered handset. The handset also includes the Android Cupcake update, which now includes a virtual on-screen keyboard, among other UI changes. Unfortunately, one major inconvenience from the phone is that it does not offer a standard headphone jack and will therefore require an adapter. Additionally, 3G will not be supported in North America. The HTC Magic also features a 3.2-inch HVGA display, a trackball for navigation and a 3.2MP autofocus camera. HTC President and CEO Peter Chou said, “The HTC Magic embodies the compact style and sophistication for which HTC has come to be known, with the powerful and intuitive internet experience for which the Android platform was designed,” HTC confirmed Vodafone will be the exclusive provider in Germany, France, the UK, and Spain. The HTC Magic will also be available in Italy non-exclusively from a carrier. Exact pricing and availability was not disclosed.
Blackberry Internet Service 2.6 is set to launch in March and will bring many new updates. BIS 2.6 is expected to have better Gmail integration and the ability to use Gmail through IMAP as well. Unfortunately, only one-way sync of your Gmail account is still expected. Blackberry emails accounts (@carrier.blackberry.net) are still going to be capped at 32kb, and there will still be no attachments or HTML support. BIS 2.6 will cost less at $5 per month.
BlackBerry Enterprise Service 5.0 will be released in Q2 2009. Probably the most important new feature in BES 5.0 is the Mobile Voice System, which lets subscribers make cheap calls. Other features include the ability to change folders from your desktop email client from your BlackBerry, and save both emails and attachments to your external storage. BES 5.0 will also include push over-the-air updates for IT administrators.
WiMax is slowly coming to some cities around the world, such as in Baltimore in the US thanks to Verizon, and in Russia with Scartel. HTC is now preparing the launch of the world’s first 4G handset, the HTC Yota, which will firstly launch in Russia where it can take advantage of the new high speed networks. The news here is that the first real life photos of the phone have now emerged. The HTC Yota is powered by Windows Mobile, has 8GB of on board memory, two cameras, among other advanced features. The device has the older HTC TouchFlo home-screen plug-in, which some find not as intuitive as it could be, including myself. The handset greatly resembles the HTC Touch, but the Yota has a better 800x480px display, and most notably, it has WiMax support which can reach speeds of 70 mbps.
