The world’s largest social network with more than 500-million registered users across the globe, has announced a press event that is scheduled to take place at the company’s headquarters in California tomorrow at 10am.
Facebook did not disclose any details of the event, including what the company would unveil. It simply sent out a teaser invitation to members of the press inviting select members to the invite-only event.
It is widely rumored the company will use the event to announce a new partnership with the largest VoIP telephone company, Skype, that would bring telephone capabilities straight from Facebook, likely to be integrated with Facebook Chat.
Facebook is also expected to unveil new redesigns of core Facebook features. The company most recently made significant improvements to its Photos application.
It is also likely that Facebook could unveil a significant upgrade to its Events and Places applications, as the company only recently launched mobile versions of the Places app (like on the iPhone), which lets users “check-in” so their friends know where they currently are.
Facebook is also widely rumored to be developing its own “@facebook.com” email system, and that announcement could materialize as soon as tomorrow.
Only weeks ago, Google added VoIP Internet telephone capabilities directly from its Gmail email client, and even going as far as allowing users in North America to make calls to either Canada or the United States completely free of charge for the rest of 2010, which includes both landlines and mobile phones.
Note: We will update this post as soon as information breaks from tomorrow’s Facebook press event
