Apple has just started to seed the iPhone OS 3.1 Beta to developers on the iPhone Dev Center website. Apple has not disclosed information relating to new features with the update yet. Users who have already installed the update have told us about a few new features they’ve already noticed.
For example, new in iPhone OS 3.1, users can now shorten video clips and save the changes as a new video file instead of overriding the original video file.
The API is now more open since it allows third party applications to use videos and edit them.
Other updates include Voice Control via Bluetooth support, AT&T profile version 4.2, OpenGL and Quartz enhancements, phone vibration when moving home-screen icons, faster start-up, shut-down and app loading times, among other features.
The baseband has also been upgraded to version 5.08.01, which fixes the ultrasn0w patch, so you won’t be able to have an unlocked iPhone 3GS with OS 3.1 for now. If you already have unlocked your iPhone and upgrade to OS 3.1, the new OS will lock your phone.
